Franklin Booking Records Requests

The Franklin Police Department only provides records access to Tennessee citizens. Proof of residency is required under T.C.A. § 10-7-503. Bring a valid Tennessee driver's license when you pick up records. Confidential information will be redacted before copies are released or inspection is allowed.

If you plan to get a record through subpoena, service should go to "RECORDS CUSTODIAN c/o Franklin Police Department" at 900 Columbia Avenue, Franklin, Tennessee. The Records Division processes all public records requests. The custodian must respond within seven business days.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office also takes public records requests separately. Records are available to Tennessee citizens. The custodian responds within seven business days. If records are not ready right away, they will either make them available, deny the request in writing, or tell you how long it will take.

Franklin Booking Release Fees

Inspecting Franklin booking releases and other public records is free. You can look at records during business hours at no cost. If you want copies, the rate is $0.15 per page for black and white and $0.50 per page for color. These fees come from the state Schedule of Reasonable Charges.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office accepts cash, cashier checks, and money orders. They no longer take personal or business checks. If you think the fee estimate is too high, contact the office to ask about the basis of the costs. You can also reach out to the Office of Open Records Counsel for help with fee disputes.

After the first hour of labor, the county may charge the hourly wage of the employees needed to produce the records you asked for. This is standard under Tennessee law and only kicks in for large or complex requests.

Understanding Franklin Booking Data

A booking record from Williamson County is not the same as a court record. The booking shows that someone was taken into custody and lists the initial charges. Those charges can change. The DA may add counts, drop some, or reduce them through a plea deal. So what you see in a booking report may not match the final case outcome. Always check with the Williamson County Criminal Court Clerk for the full picture.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. Walk-in requests work best for simple lookups. Jail booking info is available 24 hours a day by calling 615-790-5560. For criminal warrants and extraditions, call 615-790-5565. You can also submit tips through the Sheriff's website or check the Crime Map and Crime Stoppers links for recent activity in the Franklin area.

Under T.C.A. § 40-32-101, some booking records can be sealed through expungement. But most stay in the system permanently. Tennessee retention rules require law enforcement to keep felony arrest records on file with no end date. Even misdemeanor booking data often stays in the county database for years. If you find old Franklin booking data that should have been expunged, contact the Williamson County Clerk's Office at (615) 790-5712 to check on the status of the record.
